Australia Team News –
Wallabies coach Michael Cheika has named rugby league convert Curtis Rona on the wing and handed Kurtley Beale his first start at inside centre.
Rona, who impressed at Western Force in his first full season of Super Rugby, will line up on the left wing after his provincial team-mate Dane Haylett-Petty succumbed to a bicep injury.
Beale returns to the Test side after a two-year absence with Cheika banking on his ability to link with full-back Israel Folau and fly-half Bernard Foley, and present a genuine attacking threat to the world champions.
Australia have lost their last five matches against their trans-Tasman rivals going back to the 2015 World Cup final, Beale’s last match in the green and gold.
Sean McMahon will take the No 8 shirt from Lopeti Timani alongside blindside flanker Ned Hanigan and captain Michael Hooper.
The towering second-row combination of Rory Arnold and Adam Coleman is reunited, while erstwhile captain Stephen Moore takes back the starting hooker role from Tatafu Polota-Nau.
Hard-running outside centre Samu Kerevi also returns after missing the mid-year internationals and back end of the Super Rugby season with ankle and pectoral injuries.
Starting XV: Israel Folau, Henry Speight, Samu Kerevi, Kurtley Beale, Curtis Rona, Bernard Foley, Will Genia; Scott Sio, Stephen Moore, Allan Alaalatoa, Rory Arnold, Adam Coleman, Ned Hanigan, Michael Hooper, Sean McMahon.
Replacements: Tatafu Polota-Nau, Tom Robertson, Sekope Kepu, Rob Simmons, Lopeti Timani, Nick Phipps, Reece Hodge, Tevita Kuridrani.
New Zealand Team News –
Centre Sonny Bill Williams has been recalled by the All Blacks after serving a four-match suspension.
His inclusion is one of six changes made by coach Steve Hansen to the side that drew 15-15 in the final Test of the series against the British & Irish Lions.
There is no place in the team, however, for flanker Jerome Kaino, who was yellow carded in his last two matches.
Damian McKenzie is drafted in at full-back, with Ben Smith switching to the wing. Ryan Crotty and Rieko Ioane return from injury and illness respectively.
Starting XV: Damian McKenzie, Ben Smith, Ryan Crotty, Sonny Bill Williams, Rieko Ioane, Beauden Barrett, Aaron Smith; Joe Moody, Codie Taylor, Owen Franks, Brodie Retallick, Sam Whitelock, Liam Squire, Sam Cane, Kieran Read.
Replacements: Nathan Harris, Wyatt Crockett, Ofa Tu’ungafasi, Luke Romano, Ardie Savea, TJ Perenara, Lima Sopoaga, Anton Lienert-Brown.
Australia have not held the trophy that symbolises tran-Tasman Sea rugby supremacy since 2002 and the bookmakers make the All Blacks 1-10 favourites to win.
Moreover, New Zealand begin the defence of their southern hemisphere championship title feeling they have a point to prove after losing a Test at home for the first time in eight years during the drawn British & Irish Lions series in June. Predicted score: 12-40
